Home Networking

A home network is a collection of devices that link to the Internet and to each other, such as computers, gaming systems, printers, and mobile devices.

The concept "home networking" refers to the process of establishing a network among common computer equipment used in homes or for domestic usage.

Benefits:

2. Print from multiple computers on a single printer.
3. Access files and folders on all devices connected to the network.

Types of Home Networking:

1. Wired Home Network
A wired home network connects devices to each other and to the Internet using Ethernet cables.

Wired Network Advantages
1. Fast typically 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps
2. Secure and reliable.

Wired Network Dis-Advantages
Doesn’t work with devices that don’t have an Ethernet port e.g. tablets and smart phones.

2. Home Wireless Networks
Wireless networks use Wi-Fi. and are quick and easy to install
Wireless Network Advantages
1. Easy to setup
2. No cables to run.

Wireless Network Dis-Advantages
1. Not as fast as wired networks.
2. Not as reliable as wired networks.

3. Mixed Home Network
Many people consider that combining wireless and wired networking is the best solution for their needs.
For example, Devices that stream movies, benefit from the faster and more reliable cable connection.
On the other hand, Laptops and tablets, benefit from the mobility provided by a wireless connection.

2. Router or Wireless router – Connects the network to the Internet.
3. Ethernet HUB or Switch -Used to Connect Ethernet equipped devices.
4. Cables

Cable cat 5, cat5e or cat 6 with RJ45 connectors.
Telephone Cable with RJ 10 connectors.
